What is Clinical Analytics?

Axiom Clinical Analytics Software is a subscription-based benchmarking tool made for hospitals by Syntellis. Clinical Analytics provides valuable performance information to administrative decision makers, analysts, and physicians.

Below are some common terms you'll see around the tool. You can also read the Glossary of Terms for other commonly used terms and acronyms.

Clinical Analytics & the DME

Axiom Clinical Analytics is the user interface for the Data Management Engine (DME) that collects and organizes information from hospital Encounter, Charges, CDM, Patient Satisfaction, and Core Measures files. Other inputs to the system include data from state hospital organizations, The Joint Commission, and CMS. Axiom Clinical Analytics currently requires clients to set up automatic data submissions on a regular schedule. See Data Management for more information about the DME and the data loading process.

Measures

Measures group the data into performance areas, including Quality, Safety, Satisfaction, Utilization, and more. Clinical Analytics offers around 2000 different measures and we are continually adding more. See Data, Calculations & Definitions for more information about measures.

Scorecards

Clinical Analytics has a variety of tools that can translate the large data conglomerate into readable information; the Scorecards application is the most commonly used tool in the Clinical Analytics suite. The Scorecards user interface shows internal hospital data side-by-side with benchmark data on interactive, easy-to-read graphs, charts, and tables. For help selecting which Application you need, check out Choosing an Application. See Applications & Modules for more information about Scorecards and other Axiom Clinical Analytics tools.

Profiles & Peer Groups

A Performance Profile or Analytic Profile is a user-defined subset of the client's internal data; essentially, this is the population you want to know about. See Profiles for more information.

A Benchmark Profile is used to calculate benchmark values for measures to identify opportunities for improvement and can be made from internal or external data.

External profiles, what we call Peer Groups, are groups of facilities with common characteristics, like bed size, geographic area, or specialization. The Axiom Clinical Analytics has over 1800 peer groups available for external benchmarks. Each software installation comes preloaded with the peer groups that are most relevant to the hospital or health system. Organizations can also request custom peer groups, as long as they comply with existing privacy and data use agreements.
